UNDP Syria, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, and with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), contributed to the development of Syria’s National Report on Desertification (2016–2019). The report provides a comprehensive assessment of land degradation, drought, and environmental challenges across the country, analyzing trends in land cover, land productivity, soil organic carbon, and drought vulnerability. 

It also highlights the impacts on livelihoods, food and water security, and sustainable development, while outlining key challenges, policy recommendations, and pathways to strengthen resilience and sustainable land management in line with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
