Sustainable Employment Opportunities for Inclusive Economic Development in Somalia
Sustainable Employment Opportunities for Inclusive Economic Development in Somalia
January 30, 2025
Somalia stands at a pivotal moment to translate its youthful population, entrepreneurial energy, and rich natural resources into inclusive economic growth. While progress in peacebuilding and economic recovery is evident, deep challenges persist—marked by income inequality, high youth unemployment, and widespread poverty—underscoring the need for innovative, coordinated action across macro, meso, and micro levels. Against this backdrop, UNDP Somalia undertook the study Sustainable Employment Opportunities for Inclusive Economic Development in Somalia to examine the constraints and opportunities facing micro and small enterprises (MSEs) as engines of sustainable employment, with a particular focus on women, youth, and internally displaced persons, and to identify viable financing and partnership models to strengthen the sector.
