Leveraging Agrifood Technologies to Reduce Food Loss and Waste: Opportunities and Challenges for LMICs

December 23, 2025

Food waste is a complex challenge with significant environmental, economic, and social consequences. Across the entire agrifood supply chain, from farm to consumer, there are systemic inefficiencies which makes the impact profound. With an anticipated growth in the global demand for food, it is increasingly urgent to curb food loss and waste.

The UNDP Singapore Global Centre, with the support of Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, has produced this article to explore the potential of novel agrifood technologies in preventing food spoilage and transforming unavoidable waste into valuable resources. The article also highlights the need for a mix of technology, policy, and partnerships solutions to effectively tackle food waste.
