Precision agriculture tools offer significant potential for transforming farming in development contexts, by enabling farmers to produce more with fewer resources, be strategic about input optimization, adapt to shifting climate conditions, and make data informed decisions across the value chain. Yet, realizing this promise at scale requires addressing systemic constraints and existing inequalities with digital solutions that fit the local contexts.

The UNDP Singapore Global Centre, with the support of Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, has produced this article to explore what precision agriculture looks like in development contexts, the cutting-edge technologies that enable it, and how more can be done to get these solutions into the hands of the communities that need them most.
