Advancing Climate Resilience Through Innovation and Data-Driven Solutions
In the diverse and dynamic landscape of sustainability and climate resilience, we confront a complex intersection of unsustainable patterns of consumption and production, record amounts of carbon emissions, and alarming levels of air pollution. Currently, only 7.2% of used materials are cycled back into our economies after use. This places a huge burden on the environment, contributing to the climate, biodiversity, and pollution crises, while negatively impacting lives and livelihoods. Year after year, carbon dioxide levels are also soaring to new highs, highlighting the need for effective carbon pricing instruments to reduce emissions and meet the targets outlined in the Paris Agreement. Additionally, air pollution represents both a major environmental threat and a critical development challenge, ranking among the leading causes of death across all risk factors.
Digital innovation, policy design, and systems thinking can play a crucial role in tackling climate challenges and helping countries and communities worldwide attain sustainable development. Combining Singapore's experience with UNDP's global reach, the UNDP Singapore Global Centre seeks to translate climate and sustainability innovation into implementation at scale, particularly in the areas of data-driven air pollution solutions, carbon pricing and decarbonisation policies, as well as circular economy transitions.
