An urgent call for climate security from Hon. Simon Kofe

October 13, 2022

Climate change remains the single greatest threat for the Pacific today. Climate-related security risks, especially sea level rise, are imperiling the livelihoods and wellbeing of its people and undermining the full realisation of a peaceful, secure, and sustainable future for the region and, indeed, for our planet.

In this statement, Tuvalu’s Minister for Justice, Communication and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Simon Kofe, calls for solidarity to address the threat of climate change and sea level rise to global security.

Only by supporting bold and urgent climate actions, we can achieve real climate security at the national, regional, and international levels for the people of Tuvalu including women, men, youth, and people living with disability.
