About the Small Grants Initiative (SGI)

The Gov4Res Small Grants Initiative (SGI) funds community development projects with high development impact, aligned to government priorities. Its core feature is a risk-informed approach — integrating climate and disaster risk, and gender and social inclusion, into every project from the outset.

SGI is guided by four principles:

• Risk-Informed — risks to and from the project are identified, with mitigation and adaptation built into activities and budgets.
• Community Participation and Leadership — bottom-up, gender-sensitive and socially inclusive planning, led by the communities who benefit.
• Learning from Doing — generates lessons and best practice to mainstream risk-informed development into national, sub-national and organisational systems.
• Partnerships and Community-of-Practice — joint decision-making, stronger links to local government, and shared learning across organisations.

Throughout, grantees receive ongoing mentoring, coaching and technical support — strengthening their capacity to implement effectively and generate stronger lessons and outcomes.

Under this funding round, eight civil society organisations are being supported to deliver community-driven projects in partnership with government and technical stakeholders — advancing Fiji's resilience priorities through inclusive, locally owned action.
