Tonga Early Recovery Support

Tropical Cyclone Gita, a category 4 system reached 110 knots passed directly over the Tongatapu and 'Eua group between 12 to 13 February 2018. A state of emergency was declared for the whole of Tonga commencing 10pm on 12 February 2018 to 10am on 12 March 2018. An estimated 79,556 people (or around 79% of the population) were directly affected with an estimated 1,131 homes partially damaged, 119 completely destroyed.

UNDP support is focused on (output 1) strengthening technical capacity to support post disaster receiver planning assessment and coordination, and (output 2) strengthening technical capacity to support post disaster needs assessment of equipment and software needs of parliament for the long-term.
