Strengthening Collaboration Across Ghana's Cocoa-Forest Landscapes
Building a sub-national multi-stakeholder platform to strengthen collaboration, reduce deforestation, and improve livelihoods across Ghana's cocoa-forest landscapes.
Ghana's Cocoa Forest REDD+ Programme (GCFRP) is an ambitious climate-smart initiative aimed at significantly reducing deforestation and forest degradation across the country's cocoa landscapes. Implemented through six Hotspot Intervention Areas (HIAs) across Ashanti, Ahafo, Western, Western North, Eastern, and Central Regions, the programme promotes climate-smart cocoa production, improves farmer livelihoods, strengthens land-use planning, and enhances law enforcement. GCP III SECO supports the creation of a sub-national multi-stakeholder platform that enables learning, coordination, and collaboration among all six HIA Governance Boards — ensuring synergies, quality outputs, and inclusive participation of women and youth in decision-making across Ghana's cocoa landscapes.
Strengthening Collaboration Across Ghana's Cocoa-Forest Landscapes
The GCP III SECO project establishes a sub-national multi-stakeholder dialogue platform that connects the six Hotspot Intervention Areas of Ghana's Cocoa Forest REDD+ Programme. By improving governance structures, building facilitation capacities, enhancing private sector partnerships, and promoting cross-HIA learning and exchange, the project is driving systemic change in Ghana's cocoa and forestry sectors — reducing emissions from deforestation, improving farm resilience, and creating viable economic opportunities for women and youth in cocoa-growing communities.
