KUCHING, SARAWAK | 17 AUGUST 2026 — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a long-term strategic partnership with the Government of Sarawak, with a focus on supporting the State’s development priorities in climate action, energy transition, sustainable development and inclusive economic growth. The commitment was highlighted during a courtesy call by the Edward Vrkić, UNDP Resident Representative to Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam on the Premier of Sarawak, held today at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, Kuching.

The courtesy call provided an opportunity for UNDP and the Sarawak Government to exchange views on areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in support of Sarawak’s long-term development aspirations.

Discussions centred on the importance of advancing a sustainable and inclusive energy transition, strengthening climate and environmental resilience, promoting green economic development, and mobilising partnerships and innovative solutions that can contribute to Sarawak’s development goals.

As Sarawak continues to pursue its development ambitions, including its transition towards a more sustainable and diversified economy, UNDP is committed to working closely with the State Government as a trusted development partner, drawing on its global expertise, policy and implementation capabilities and extensive network of partners.

The Resident Representative underscored UNDP’s readiness to partner with Sarawak in translating its development ambitions into practical and scalable solutions, while facilitating knowledge exchange, innovation and partnerships at national, regional and international levels.

“UNDP stands ready to support Sarawak’s ambition in advancing sustainable development and ensuring its path towards high growth and high value is inclusive and future-oriented. We look forward to deepening our partnership with the Sarawak Government and supporting its priorities, particularly its ambitious climate action, energy transition and sustainable development agenda” said the UNDP Resident Representative to Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

The engagement also reaffirmed the shared commitment of UNDP and the Sarawak Government to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring that development pathways are inclusive, resilient and responsive to the needs and aspirations of communities.
