March 20, 2025
This report provides findings of a labour market research carried out in Baidoa as part of the UN Joint Programme, Saameynta (Impact) Scaling-Up Solutions to Displacement in Somalia is implemented by UNDP, UN Habitat, and IOM. The aim of Saameynta is to reduce the number of people living in forced displacement through leveraging value generated by urbanisation to deliver durable solutions at scale in three Somali cities, among them, Baidoa in the South-West State.
The study finds that the labour market of Baidoa District, with its vibrant MSME sector, stands as a critical component in driving the region's socio-economic development. By emphasising skill development, improving working conditions for all (including underaged labour), supporting business growth, and empowering women, we can sculpt a more inclusive labour market. Such changes would not just benefit business owners and employees; they will lay the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future.
