Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sadatu Reeves welcomes UNDP Liberia's Resident Representative Aliou Dia at the police training academy.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) has increasingly emphasized mental health and wellness among its officers, recognizing the psychological pressures associated with policing.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sadatu Reeves, emphasized the importance of conducting a training needs assessment to identify key capacity gaps and align future training initiatives with operational realities.
Reeves provided a comprehensive overview of the LNPTA’s ongoing work, accomplishments, and challenges, highlighting several initiatives that demonstrate their commitment to modernization and institutional reforms during a visit to the Liberia National Police Training Academy on May 1, 2025, by UNDP Resident Representative Aliou Dia.
Dia’s visit was to strengthen the longstanding partnership between UNDP and the Liberia National Police (LNP) and explore opportunities for expanded cooperation in critical areas of police development and national security.
In addition to institutional updates, the discussions explored new areas of strategic collaboration, including the growing threat of cybercrime.
The UNDP Resident Representative emphasized partnership with the University of Liberia in launching a master’s Programme in Cyber Security, a critical step in equipping Liberia with the human capital and capacity to navigate evolving digital threats.
Another area of focus was forensic science and capacity building, where both parties agreed on the urgent need for advanced training and technical support to enhance investigative and evidence-based policing.
In line with national sustainability efforts, the LNP is also exploring environmental innovation, a local baton production initiative, and cost-effective, empowering measures that reflect the commitment to self-reliance and practical innovation.
The visit marks a significant step forward in reinforcing the partnership between UNDP and the LNP. It aligns with broader national and international goals to build inclusive, accountable, and effective security institutions.
