Thirty emerging young leaders from both formal and informal sectors across four counties participated in the first Regional Democracy Education Training organized by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), which took place from June 4 to 6 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The initiative is supported by the UNDP Liberia Electoral Support Project, funded by the European Union, Ireland, and Sweden.

The participants from Sinoe, Rivercess, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties included young leaders from political parties, community colleges, and youth-led organizations.

Additionally, leaders from the informal sector, including commercial unions and small-scale traders, participated in the program.

The Regional Democracy Education program addresses key issues identified through a nationwide consultative process with young people.

Common concerns highlighted across Liberia’s 15 counties include teenage pregnancy, limited livelihood opportunities, and inadequate access to education that aligns with labor market needs.

Catalyzing democratic knowledge, skills, attitudes, and trust-building, the initiative provides a safe and inclusive space for individuals from diverse social and political backgrounds to convene, exchange ideas, and discuss pressing issues.

The program is part of the broader Liberia Electoral Support Project, which aims to foster a more inclusive and accountable democratic process in Liberia. Managed by UNDP and implemented in partnership with UN Women and NIMD, the project is supported by the European Union, Irish Aid, and the Embassy of Sweden.
