In a show of continued partnership and mutual commitment to judicial reforms and the rule of law, UNDP Resident Representative Aliou Dia paid a courtesy visit to Her Honor Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh at the Temple of Justice on April 8, 2025.
During the meeting, Chief Justice Yuoh expressed deep appreciation for UNDP’s steadfast support to Liberia’s Judiciary over the years. She highlighted key areas of collaboration, including the successful implementation of the Magisterial Sitting Program, support during past election cycles, development of the Judiciary’s Strategic Plan, and the strengthening of case management systems.
The Chief Justice emphasized the Judiciary’s commitment to digital transformation, particularly the digitalization of the Supreme Court. She shared updates on a recent knowledge exchange visit to Rwanda on electronic court filing systems, signaling Liberia’s intent to adopt similar innovations.
She also mentioned ongoing efforts such as curriculum development for the Judicial Institute and the construction of new magisterial courts in Gardnerville, Brewerville, and Maryland Judicial Circuits, funded by the Government of Liberia. However, she acknowledged gaps in resources for training magistrates and called for urgent support to complete training for 30 additional judicial officers under the 5th Circle of the Magistrate Training Program.
In response, Mr. Dia reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Judiciary and aligning with the Government of Liberia’s priorities. He expressed strong interest in backing digitalization efforts, facilitating further knowledge exchanges, and exploring additional support to strengthen the rule of law.
“Rebranding Liberia through strong, transparent, and accessible institutions is a vision I share deeply,” Mr. Dia said. “We look forward to working closely with the Judiciary to prioritize key areas in the Strategic Plan and find sustainable solutions.”
The meeting concluded with an agreement for UNDP and the Judiciary to hold follow-up discussions to identify immediate and long-term areas of collaboration, including the urgent needs of the Magisterial Sitting Program.
