UNDP has been a strategic partner of national governments, donors, and international financial institutions in the development of social protection systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. The region has the largest portfolio of UNDP projects in the world, and we have sought to consolidate our work around the concepts of identifying, protecting, and empowering vulnerable populations in the countries of the region.
12 LAC countries have implemented their national Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) with UNDP support. UNDP also contributed, in different national contexts, to the creation and expansion of social registers and conditional cash transfer programs, and developed programs to
support micro, small and medium-sized companies so that they can be productively and formally inserted in solid value chains, generating opportunities, especially for women entrepreneurs.
