Amman, 20 November 2025 – The Ministry of Environment, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan, today launched a consultative national dialogue in preparation for Jordan’s biodiversity finance plan.

The event, held under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Environment, Dr Ayman Suleiman, and attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Ali, Chairperson of the National Biodiversity Committee of Jordan, brought together representatives from the Government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners to assess current financing flows and potential funding mechanisms, laying the foundation for a robust strategy to mobilize and manage resources in support of biodiversity conservation.

In her opening remarks, Randa Aboul-Hosn, UNDP Resident Representative in Jordan, reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Environment to advance Jordan’s environmental priorities. She highlighted that UNDP’s new Strategic Plan prioritizes innovative financing models and regulatory frameworks, which are instrumental in supporting Jordan to strengthen biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.

The national dialogue provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on Jordan’s biodiversity management system, including the institutional, policy, and technical gaps that must be addressed to adopt more sustainable and lasting solutions.

For his part, the Minister of Environment noted that the dialogue seeks to address funding gaps in the environmental sector and explore innovative financing opportunities to support the National Biodiversity Strategy and its action plan, enhancing ecosystem resilience against climate challenges and global environmental changes.

The biodiversity financing dialogue reflects the strong collaboration between UNDP and the Ministry of Environment, which has led to significant progress in advancing effective conservation, including the development of a new National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan aligned with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The findings will directly inform the Biodiversity Finance Plan (BFP), which will outline practical, evidence-based financing options and propose targeted solutions to strengthen cross-sector coordination and close biodiversity finance gaps.
