Through this partnership, UNDP and Dundgovi Province will work together to advance sustainable, climate-resilient, and inclusive development that improves the well-being and livelihoods of local communities. The collaboration will promote green growth, strengthen resilience to climate and environmental challenges, support the sustainable management of natural resources, and expand economic opportunities, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable groups. Through co-creation, local ownership and innovation, the partnership will identify home-grown solutions tailored to Dundgovi’s unique context, while drawing on international best practices to help build a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable future for the people of Dundgovi Province.
“UNDP is committed to working closely with local governments and communities across Mongolia to ensure that development solutions reflect local priorities and realities. In Dundgovi, this partnership will help translate the province’s ambitions into practical action, from clean energy and climate resilience to sustainable livelihoods and new opportunities for local communities.” said Lionel Laurens, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia.
Meeting with local SME
The MOU was signed alongside UNDP’s consultations in Dundgovi for the formulation of the UNDP Mongolia Country Programme Document (CPD) 2028–2032. The consultation in Mandalgovi brought together local stakeholders to discuss development priorities related to climate change and the environment, a green economic transition and jobs, and governance and civic participation.
The consultation is part of UNDP’s efforts to ensure that local perspectives inform the next Country Programme. The process emphasizes inclusive participation, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, with inputs and conclusions intended to feed into the formulation of the CPD. Together, the MOU and the Country Programme consultation mark an important step in shaping the next phase of cooperation between UNDP and Dundgovi Province, ensuring that future initiatives are grounded in local realities, informed by diverse voices and responsive to the province’s evolving development needs.
