Iraq Nationally Determined Contribution
Iraq Nationally Determined Contribution
October 7, 2026
Iraq has officially launched its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), setting out a more ambitious framework for climate action through 2035.
Under the patronage of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, the updated NDC was launched in Baghdad in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The updated NDC links climate action to key development priorities in Iraq, including economic diversification, energy and water security, resilience building, investment, and sustainable development.
For more than a decade, UNDP has supported the Government of Iraq in developing policies and strategies and strengthening national action on climate change. Most recently, UNDP provided technical support throughout the NDC update process, with funding from the United Kingdom under the Climate Promise initiative.
The next phase is now underway: translating climate ambition into implementation, investment, stronger institutions, climate finance, partnerships, and tangible results for people across Iraq.
