Ghana's carbon market continues to operationalise its framework.

The 2025 to mid-year 2026 Ghana Carbon Market Annual Progress Report highlights significant progress in strengthening the country's participation in international carbon markets.

With 11 projects authorised for international transfer, 12.7 million tonnes of CO₂e in authorised ITMOs, and 91 projects in the national pipeline, Ghana is expanding opportunities for climate action, investment and development across sectors including clean cooking, renewable energy, electric mobility, nature-based solutions and waste management. In 2025, Ghana became the first country in Africa to complete the end-to-end process of authorising, issuing, transferring and reporting ITMOs, delivering 11,733 credits to Switzerland.

The report also highlights progress on the 2026 carbon market regulations, now under legal review, growing bilateral cooperation with five countries, and continued strengthening of Ghana's carbon registry and NDC implementation.

As Ghana looks ahead to the remainder of 2026, the focus is on strengthening the systems, partnerships and investments needed to ensure the carbon market delivers high-integrity carbon, credible climate action and tangible benefits for Ghanaians.
