Ghana has launched its updated Renewable Energy Master Plan (REMP) 2026–2030, a strategic roadmap developed by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition with support from UNDP under the Climate Promise Initiative.

Building on the 2019 REMP and the progress made since, including electricity access rising from 85% in 2019 to 89.5% by December 2024, the updated Plan sets ambitious targets for the next five years, including 852 MWp of new utility-scale solar PV, 709 MWp of wind power, 127 MWp of new hydropower, and 440 mini-grids to electrify rural and island communities. It also targets 1.1 million solar lanterns and a major scale-up of biofuel production and improved cookstoves.

Achieving these targets will require an estimated $10.8 billion in investment, projected to create over 353,000 jobs across manufacturing, installation, operations and research. The Plan places strong emphasis on gender-responsive strategies, local manufacturing, and inclusive participation by women, youth and persons with disabilities, positioning renewable energy as a driver of both climate resilience and economic transformation.
