UNDP Mauritania Accelerator Lab

Exploring, mapping and testing solutions on solid waste management, modernization of the healthcare system and informality in the agriculture sector.

The UNDP Accelerator Lab team in Mauritania is a dynamic unit within the Country Office (CO) that brings the dimension of innovation to its interventions as well as the interventions of the CO. The unit started its first learning cycle on thematics related to disaster risk reduction and preventing the third wave of COVID-19 in Mauritania.

Currently, the Accelerator Lab is exploring, mapping and testing solutions to solid waste management, modernization of the healthcare system and informality in the agriculture sector. Particularly, we are setting out experimentations that use soil-based compost for growing different types of vegetables while reducing palm-related waste; developing an application to promote access to healthcare services; and developing a platform that digitalizes and creates a market for informal and small-scale producers in Mauritania. The Lab is also learning by producing several knowledge products to understand key dynamics of development issues in Mauritania. The Lab is currently exploring issues related to digital identity and access to public services to understand the dynamics and weak signals for efficient and trustworthy systems.
