UNDP Libya Accelerator Lab

We work on solid waste management, plastics, the circular economy and informal labor.

The UNDP Libya Accelerator Lab's interventions mainly target unforeseen areas of the waste issue by sensing, exploring and testing to learn what works and what doesn't. Our focus is on reducing waste in the streets and landfills through two approaches: encouraging and promoting segregation from the sources and working with partners to reduce the single-use of plastic in supermarkets and schools.

Before designing four experiments, the Lab team utilized behavioral insights (BI) and collective intelligence and:

a) Mapped new stakeholders/drivers;

b) Explored the private sector role and potential solutions;

c) Organized a series of workshops using the collective intelligence tool;

d) Identified the several leverage points;

e) Gathered the data/study.

The Accelerator Lab used similar methods in learning about the entrepreneurship issue to increase the participation of young people in rural areas in entrepreneurship programmes.

The Lab team has been included in preparing the UNDP Libya Country Office for the use of innovative methods such as sense-making and identifying emerging signals.

The Accelerator Lab continues to support the Country Office in enabling innovation to address complex challenges in Libya.
