President of Tajikistan extends congratulations to UNDP on its 30th anniversary in the country

Dushanbe, 28 November 2023 – President Emomali Rahmon conveyed a congratulatory message to UNDP during the 23rd Session of the Tajikistan Investment Council, emphasizing the valuable role the UN agency has played over three decades working in the country. 

In response, UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Lenni Montiel said UNDP appreciates the Government's recognition, and added that UNDP remains dedicated to supporting Tajikistan in its pursuit of sustainable development. 

“UNDP is privileged to be working with the Government and people of Tajikistan, advancing the 2030 Agenda,” Montiel said. “This includes promoting inclusive and green economic growth, climate action, human rights, women's empowerment, and access to justice.”

The 23rd Session of the Tajikistan Investment Council took place on 28 November 2023 in Dushanbe and focused on enhancing the country’s investment climate.  

The discussions centered on business development and attracting international investments by improving the business environment. At the council, UNDP’s Montiel addressed the critical nexus between investment, young women and men, the rule of law and development based on international experiences. He also highlighted the relevance of legal certainty, contract enforcement, property rights, transparency, and accountability – along with the fight against corruption – as key elements for attracting foreign investment to any country.  

This year's Investment Council was attended by members of Tajikistan's cabinet for the economic, financial, and business sectors, as well as the EU ambassador, the UN resident coordinator, the heads of UNDP and FAO, and the heads of the World Bank, USAID, JICA, ADB, EBRD, and AKFN.
