The Gambia - 2025 SDG Monitoring Survey

The Gambia - 2025 SDG Monitoring Survey

August 13, 2025

The Gambia is tracking its progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) on peace, justice, and strong institutions. The 2025 SDG Monitoring Survey, conducted by the Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS), builds on the 2021 baseline survey to provide evidence-based data for policymaking. The implementation of the survey was funded by Denmark, Luxembourg, and the Republic of Korea.

The survey reveals several positive trends, including a notable decline in the proportion of the population feeling discriminated against. Access to dispute resolution mechanisms has also improved substantially, with significant gains for women and in rural areas. Gambians report high satisfaction with essential public services, alongside improved perceptions of government service delivery. However, the report also highlights key challenges: women and rural residents remain particularly vulnerable to physical violence, and reporting rates for such incidents remain low. Perceptions of safety have declined slightly, bribery persists, and only a minority believe that decision-making processes are inclusive and responsive.

The Gambia’s experience offers valuable insights for national stakeholders across sectors, from public sector reform to strengthening the rule of law.

Further details are available in the survey methodology report, which describes the sampling approach and data collection for the 2025 SDG Monitoring Survey in The Gambia.
