UK Support to UNDP in the Pacific
Background
The United Kingdom, through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is a longstanding and valued partner of UNDP in the Pacific, supporting efforts to strengthen climate‑resilient governance, community resilience, and sustainable development.
UK support has been instrumental to flagship initiatives including Governance for Resilient Development in the Pacific (Gov4Res), which strengthens national systems and public finance to integrate climate and disaster risk into decision‑making; the Fiji Rural Electrification Fund (FREF), which expands access to clean, reliable renewable energy for rural and maritime communities through innovative financing and partnerships; and regional maritime security initiatives that work with governments and coastal communities to enhance maritime safety, security, and stewardship of ocean resources.
Together, these investments reflect the UK’s commitment to locally led development, climate resilience, and practical solutions that deliver tangible benefits for Pacific Island communities, while reinforcing UNDP’s role as a trusted and integrated partner across governance, climate change, energy, and security priorities.
