The report consists of eight chapters examining the Kingdom of Bahrain’s partnerships, contributions and international engagement in support of the Sustainable Development Goals between 2015 and 2022. Chapter one introduces the report and outlines Bahrain’s contributions towards the SDGs, including the partnerships and memoranda of understanding established during the period. It also presents the main areas through which Bahrain’s partnerships contribute to SDG 17 and other Sustainable Development Goals.
Chapter two explores how Bahrain has opened opportunities for the rest of the world, including universal access to health, education and security, the Kingdom’s response to COVID-19, financial inclusion and digital transformation for migrant workers, religious freedom and tolerance, collaboration with United Nations entities on urban planning and development, and climate change mitigation efforts. Chapter three focuses on South-South Cooperation and highlights the contribution of national institutions, including the University of Bahrain, Tamkeen, the Sustainable Energy Authority, the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the Supreme Council for Women and the Institute of Public Administration, in sharing knowledge and expertise.
Chapter four reviews Bahrain’s international awards, conferences and promotion of United Nations international days, demonstrating how these initiatives support knowledge-sharing, sustainable development, youth empowerment, women’s empowerment, humanitarian action and international cooperation. Chapter five examines Bahrain’s development and humanitarian assistance, including the work of the Royal Organization for Humanitarian Assistance and the Bahrain Red Crescent Society.
Chapter six focuses on Bahrain’s engagement with regional and global organizations, particularly the United Nations, and reviews UN memberships and recognition, UN regional offices, key UNDP partnerships, cooperation with other UN entities, the international replication of the “Bahrain Model”, diplomatic capacity-building, sustainable finance initiatives and international recognition received between 2015 and 2022. Chapter seven highlights Bahrain’s cultural contributions, including major cultural events and festivals, knowledge-transfer initiatives, its hosting of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage and the Kingdom’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Chapter eight concludes the report by bringing together its findings on Bahrain’s partnerships and contributions and their role in advancing sustainable development and strengthening the Kingdom’s engagement with the international community.
