In continuation of support to the National Elections Commission (NEC) UNDP Liberia and its partners Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia and Irish Aid have donated 50 7kva generators for use in the ongoing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise.

The donation was made in response to the National Elections Commission's request for alternative energy sources to ensure the continued operation of BVR equipment, especially during the rainy season.

Currently, the fifty generators are being used in nine counties where phase two of the BVR process is taking place.

The use of the generators will help solve the problem of limited power supply for BVR equipment, experienced during the first phase of the BVR process.

During the handover of the generators on 17 April 2023, UNDP Liberia Resident Representative, Stephen Rodriques emphasized the significance of a successful BVR process as the basis for credible and peaceful elections in October this year.

He reaffirmed the commitment of UNDP Liberia under the Liberia Electoral Support Project working with development partners Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia Irish Aid as well as NEC Liberia and the Government of Liberia towards the strengthening of democracy and the sustenance of peace in Liberia.
