The leadership of the National Elections Commission (NEC), represented by twenty-eight commissioners and senior managers, have participated in a four-day Building Institutional Excellence in Elections (BRIDGE) workshop on Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections.

The workshop co-funded by the European Union and the Governments of Ireland, and Sweden, provided an opportunity for commissioners to be strategic in internal processes, build upon successful practices in election management, and chart the way forward in areas of potential institutional reforms.

The European Partnership for Development facilitated the training under the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP) of UNDP, which focused on Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections.

The UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Mr. Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah commended the vision of the Commission in striving for excellence and channeling its experiences into institutional transformation.

Mr. Ohemeng-Boamah emphasized the importance of leadership, self-awareness, and commitment in this process, highlighting the need for the NEC to serve as an agent of positive change in the electoral landscape and the importance of maintaining the strength of public trust in the election administration overall.

He reaffirmed UNDP and its partners' support of the NEC as it works to apply lessons learned from recent and past electoral cycles to broaden electoral reform efforts and its internal review processes moving forward.

The training held in Harbel, Margibi County, provided the representatives of NEC with an understanding of the building blocks and enablers of institutional excellence through practical approaches.

Participants committed to addressing the management, organizational structure, and culture of the Election Management Body (EMB) and tackling common internal organizational issues to ensure smooth operations and improved interpersonal relations.

They explored internal and external challenges and designed organizational strategies necessary to achieve institutional excellence reflecting on harnessing attributes of the organizational culture and leadership to support continuous improvement, learning, and development within the NEC, and to enhance the performance of the EMB in implementing its constitutional mandate with integrity and professionalism.

They will explore both internal and external challenges and design organizational strategies necessary to achieve institutional excellence.
