The Liberian Government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has officially endorsed and launched the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) project during a high-level board and partnership meeting held at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia.

The endorsement and launch mark a significant step forward in Liberia’s efforts to develop a comprehensive Biodiversity Finance Plan (BFP), closing the biodiversity funding gap and aligning national development with global environmental goals.

The project seeks to identify, mobilize, and optimize financial resources for biodiversity conservation in Liberia.

During the launch, the Board comprised the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) as leading government partners, called on the project team to fast-track implementation of key activities, noting that the biodiversity finance plan is critical to implementing Liberia’s National Biodiversity and Strategy Action Plan (NBSAP).

This endorsement and launch reflect Liberia’s commitment to integrating biodiversity into national planning and finance systems and align with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

The BIOFIN initiative is critical to aligning biodiversity conservation with the country’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and the National Biodiversity and Strategy Action Plan (NBSAP).
