UNDP's current five year programme for Ethiopia prioritises strengthening the country's climate resilience and environmental sustainability.

Specifically, UNDP's intervention will:

  • Strengthen disaster risk management systems and early warning mechanisms in all regions.

  • Promote climate-smart agriculture, afforestation, and sustainable land use.

  • Expand access to renewable energy, especially in off-grid rural areas.

  • Mobilize climate finance, including from vertical funds like the Green Climate Fund and Global Environment Facility.

Through this focus, UNDP is committed to delivering on the following key results by 2030:

  • 30 million people reached with climate early warning information

  • 614,000 hectares of forest rehabilitated

  • US$1 billion mobilized in climate finance

  • Over 1 million households and businesses access clean energy
