UNDP’s Future Trends and Signals System (FTSS) is a powerful resource for teams conducting Horizon Scanning as part of the CPD development process.
The FTSS is an up-to-date repository of trends and signals of change curated from global and regional sources. It is a tool specially designed by UNDP for UNDP to allow colleagues to observe, capture, and share the signals of change they see around them so that they can inform decisions and actions in UNDP.
The FTSS contains more than 2000 signals of change on a wide variety of topics that are directly or indirectly related to UNDP’s work. It is a UNDP-shaped resource that uses language and indicators that come from within UNDP rather than relying on generic futures knowledge from outside.
By leveraging the FTSS, teams can gain a head start on identifying relevant signals and trends for their country context.
The FTSS provides pre-identified signals organized across key development domains (e.g., climate, technology, governance).
Signals in the FTSS are categorized by the STEEP framework (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political), ensuring systematic coverage of all critical domains.
Refer to the "Contextualizing the FTSS Guide" for guidance on localizing global insights from the FTSS.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for adapting FTSS insights to inform local foresight exercises, such as Horizon Scanning and Driver Identification.

Once, you've collected a satisfactory number of signals and have finished with your horizon scanning, it's time to start analysing them to identify Drivers of Change.
