Kaouther Mokrane created a startup to allow populations to access nutritious and healthy food choices.
Kaouther Mokrane is a geological engineer and is trained in nutrition and digital marketing. She founded “Eat Clean” and in 2022 was selected among the innovative women from the Arab states to take part in the second edition of the “Women Innovators Programme”, a joint mentoring programme between the Regional Bureau of UNDP in the Arab states (RBAS) and the 4 Years from Now (4YFN) platform.
“Healthy cuisine has always been part of my lifestyle, a real passion for me”, tells Kaouther. This is how she came about creating “Eat Clean”, which has now become a local brand known for its healthy and nutritious products, “Eat Clean” offers nutritional specialties derived from a variety of Algerian dates called “Deglet Nour”, the products come in different forms, from a date powder, sirop and paste which can replace refined sugar, in a variety of recipes designed to match the needs of people living with chronic diseases such as diabetes or hypertension. The variety of foods offered by “Eat Clean” includes food designed for people dealing with allergies and intolerances and offers lactose-free and gluten-free options. Kaouther wanted first and foremost to create a business that promotes health and not be limited by the number of recipes to handcrafted healthy recipes, facing various constraints such as the limited market and fast expiration dates.
Kaouther is convinced that “everything created by nature is beneficial to our health, which is why we made it our mission to end false ideas about nutrition in our society and help people reach an optimal health and well-being”, she adds, enthusiastic about “Eat Clean” potential and how the products can benefit the health of each one of us.
Kaouther received support and encouragement from professionals such as a nutrition specialist who advised her to create recipes which include dates as an alternative to sugar and “Eat Clean” has now become a brand with healthy and medically approved nutritious products.
But it has not always been easy, a lot of people around Kaouther tried to discourage her, telling her only health and nutrition professionals could walk this path, that it was not her field. Kaouther’s motivation, strong belief in herself and her project and her perseverance, - with the support of her family and friends, including medical doctors and nutritionists -, made it possible. Today her hard work is fruitful and she is proud of her perseverance and her efforts: the enthusiastic reception from those who has tested her products, and Kaouther has been able to take part in the joint programme by UNDP-4 Years From Now (4YFN) for innovative women in the Arab world and to present her project in front of a panel of professionals at “GSMA’s World Mobile Congress”, which took place from February 27th to March 2nd 2023, in Barcelona.
The agri-food sector is not saturated and “Eat Clean” has a bright future ahead, provided that potential business partners would express their interest and allow “Eat Clean” to expand to the national level. It is one of the goals presented in Barcelona on March 2nd, during the World Mobile Congress.
