AAP: A Cross Practice Approach

November 27, 2015

Over the past decade, UNDP has provided increasing support for climate change adaptation, recognizing climate change not only as an environmental issue, but also as a development one.  As the UN Agency responsible for development and in particular the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), UNDP messaging and action has focused on strengthening resilience and sustaining development achievements in the face of climate change.  As such, expertise from different parts of UNDP becomes more relevant for addressing climate-related issues and strengthening adaptive capacity. As a result, UNDP has emphasized, in recent years, “cross-practice”, or integrated, support to countries on climate change which draws on services and expertise from a variety of UNDP practice areas.

The Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP) served as a pilot for this approach.  AAP was launched in 2008 with funding from the Government of Japan and completed implementation at the end of 2012.  This brochure describes AAP's approach to addressing climate change in an integrated manner.
