UNDP supports “Young Ecologist” campaign in Nukus

June 10, 2022, Nukus, Karakalpakstan. The environmental action "Young Ecologist" is taking place in Nukus today.

Within the "Youth Day" held annually on June 30, June is announced as the Month of Youth in Uzbekistan. Therefore, youth festivals and forums, contests, and competitions are being held all over the country under the call "Youth of the new Uzbekistan, let's unite", at the level of "mahalla-sector-district-region-republic".

The campaign involves young people living in mahallas and communities of Nukus. With the assistance of the UNDP, UNFPA, FAO Joint Programme "Unleashing young people’s and vulnerable citizens’ creativity and innovation by strengthening their adaptive capacity to address the economic and food insecurities in the exposed communities of the Aral Sea region" and with the support of the Karakalpak branch of the Youth Affairs Agency of Uzbekistan, 64 signs calling for keeping the schools and the native city clean were installed in educational institutions. In addition, PET bottle collection containers with appropriate appeals have been installed in 10 sides of cultural leisure and mass gathering facilities.

The aim of the initiative is to explain the importance of cleanliness as an integral part of environmental and nature protection for future generations.
