October 22, 2021

ESCWA and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics organized a webinar on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators. This event occurred in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, United Nations Development Programme Oslo Governance Centre and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. These United Nations agencies are custodians of SDG indicators 16.1.1, 16.1.2, 16.1.3, 16.1.4, 16.3.1, 16.3.2, 16.3.3, 16.4.1, 16.5.1, 16.5.2, 16.6.2, 16.7.1b and c, 16.7.2, 16.10.1, 16.a.1 and 16.b.1, data on which is under-produced and disseminated in the Arab region.

The aim is to create a common understanding among data producers on how to collect, measure and disseminate data on SDG indicators so as to increase data availability and enhance national data flow to national policy makers and regional users, including the custodian agencies.

The main objectives of the regional training are:
  • Improving understanding of metadata and the nature of data in the United Nations Statistics Division SDG database

  • Enhancing statistical capacities for the production and use of comparable data on SDG indicators

  • Strengthening inter-institutional coordination to invigorate production of data on SDG indicators

  • Knowledge-sharing and discussing country-specific challenges in measuring SDG indicators
