Financial Integrity
and Economic Governance for Inclusive, Accountable and Effective Governance Systems
Focus Area
Every year, billions of dollars are lost through corruption, illicit financial flows, money laundering and other forms of financial crime. These practices weaken public institutions, reduce governments' ability to finance essential services, and undermine public trust. They also distort markets, concentrate wealth and power, and make it harder for countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive development.
At UNDP's Global Policy Centre for Governance, we approach financial integrity as a governance challenge. We generate evidence, convene partners, and develop policy solutions that strengthen transparency, accountability and institutional effectiveness. By strengthening the governance of financial systems, we help countries mobilize resources, build public trust, support accountable and enabling environments for sustainable development, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
We conduct diagnostic analysis of governance and financial integrity risks affecting domestic resource mobilization and public finance management in countries and sectors. The Centre also generates evidence, convenes partners, and develop policy solutions in support of systemic derisking approaches, and that strengthen transparency, accountability and institutional effectiveness. By strengthening the governance of financial systems, we help countries mobilize resources, build public trust, support accountable and enabling environments for sustainable development, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
