“Your story is powerful.”

20 youth leaders from different municipalities in the Province of Maguindanao participated in Kadtudtula (“to tell a story” in the Maguindanao language), a digital peace storytelling workshop that aims to build culture of peace through stories told through digital campaigns. There were capacity-building activities focusing on basic understanding of communication for development, digital media literacy, and campaigns pitching - all of which aimed to contribute to identifying narratives on youth, peace, and security. Participants developed the following digital peacebuilding campaigns that they have proposed to be implemented in the next months:

  • Kadtabangsamoro is an online and offline donation campaign that intends to collect at least a cup of rice or any means of donation the youth and their families affected by conflicts and currently residing in the evacuation center in Mamasapano, Maguindano.
  • Talilintad aims to address the lack of peace-related youth interventions in the Municipality of Talitay through Empowerment Sessions, Peace formation Workshops, and Capacity-building.
  • Lakit-Lambay is a Maguindanaon term which means “connection.” This campaign aims to establish connection and engagement with the Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) Officials together with the existing organizations in the municipality of Datu Piang.
  • Tabang Moro Youth is campaign that aims to promote balanced education and encourage the children particularly students in Madrasah to learn secular education.
  • Këfanangguwit, a Teduray word which means “to lead,” is both an online and offline youth-led campaign that aims to increase civic participation of indigenous youth through provision of right programs and services. This project hopes to address one of the challenges of IP youth community which is the lack of civic participation due to limited access to opportunities.

Through this initiative, participants were trained on technical skills on peacebuilding communications and advocacy and equipped with knowledge on addressing misinformation/disinformation and promoting positive-alternative messaging. Project Kadtudtula was organized by UNDP Philippines in partnership with AMYL - Alliance of Magnanimous Youth Leaders Inc. and the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, with support from the European Union (EU).
