As part of COVID-19 response in Guinea-Bissau, UNDP is partnering with Red Cross for door-to-door awareness raising mainly in the capital Bissau, the most affected sector.

As mentioned by the National Project Coordinator, Daniel Vieira, the population has been extremely collaborative and willing to receive more information on this pandemic and how to prevent it. “We have received very positive feedback, the population is adhering to the mobilization and there is an important information gap on COVID-19 which makes awareness raising activities even more critical” said Daniel Vieira.

The joint project, “Prevention and Response to COVID-19 Pandemic” was signed in April 28. Red Cross will receive financial support from UUNDP on i) capacity building of supervisors and facilitators involved in the project on preventive measures and response to COVID-19; ii) social mobilization and communication with the beneficiaries; iii) awareness raising on the symptoms of the pandemic; iv) collection of data on the families sensitized in order to better inform decision taking; v) dissemination of key messages on preventive and response measures to the virus.

The project will last 3 month and will be implemented in partnership with WHO, UNICEF, WFP, UNHCR and the government.

UNDP Guinea-Bissau is committed to actively contribute, along with its partners, to continue to raise awareness of families, youth and communities for the strict respect of preventive measures.
