UNDP provides valuable input to countries, negotiators and those involved in global processes, (including the UNFCCC) by drawing on the experience and lessons learned at country level. UNDP provides technical advice towards many of the processes that are currently underway to negotiate global agreements and operational mechanisms, including the 2015 climate change agreement under the UNFCCC, the post-2015 development agenda as well as regional processes such as the Tokyo International Conference on Africa and Development. UNDP’s analyses, reporting, outreach and coordination on critical issues emerging from these policy debates is also communicated through regional and country offices to strengthen policy work at the national and sub-national levels.

UNDP has supported its partners and countries to prepare for the UN Secretary General’s Climate Change Summit (September 2014), and the UNFCCC COP 21 in Paris in December 2015. Specifically, ahead of COP 20 in Lima in December 2014, UNDP Peru played a pivotal role in supporting the Ministry of Environment of Peru (MINAM) in the planning, organization and implementation of COP 20. This support ranged from facilitating the construction and organization of the COP venue to supporting national stakeholders and civil society.

UNDP supports countries as they engage in international climate processes, facilitate national level climate change action and access and implement funding to support long-term low emission, climate resilient development strategies.
