UNDP teams up with iHeartMedia to raise awareness around the Sustainable Development Goals

November 4, 2019

November 4, 2019 (New York, NY) – Millions of people in the United States and around the world are learning about the Sustainable Development Goals thanks to a public service announcement (PSA) campaign launched across iHeartMedia, the number one audio company in America. The campaign was developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Sustainable Partners, Inc., founded by musician Adam Met of the indie pop band AJR.

The series of radio PSAs were created to inspire individuals to play an active part in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Also known as the Global Goals, they were agreed upon by world leaders as a roadmap to protect the planet and people from the effects of climate change, poverty and inequality.

The first phase of this campaign consists of a series of PSAs which offer actions everyone can take in their daily lives, such as reducing waste with reusable coffee cups, conserving water through smart clothing purchases, and protecting rainforests with wiser food choices, among others. These small everyday acts, coupled with calls for bigger policy and system changes, will lead to wide-scale impact for the planet.

The PSAs feature artists including AJR, Steve Aoki, Rachel Crow, Max, Local Natives, Runaway June and iHeartMedia personality Greg T. and will continue to run across iHeartMedia platforms through November 2019.

“Addressing the biggest climate challenges in the world can seem like a daunting task, but every small action can lead to real change,” said Alissa Pollack, Executive Vice President, Global Music Marketing. “By simply educating our listeners that these Global Goals exist we hope to encourage our listeners to undertake actions – big and small – that will positively impact the world and help achieve these global commitments by 2030.”

“Going faster and getting louder is the only way that nations will fulfill the Goals for everyone by 2030,” says Mila Rosenthal, UNDP Communications Director.  “It’s a huge boost to reach millions of people with tangible ways they can catalyze change. Every person who gets inspired and gets involved will help show world leaders that it’s time to step up and keep their Global Goals promises.”

“Musicians and entertainers have passions beyond music,” said Adam Met, musician and founder of Sustainable Partners, Inc. “The PSAs are a great way for them amplify their voices for social good.”

"The Global Goals provide a framework for artists to align themselves with a clearly identified and attainable mission,” Met said. “This campaign with iHeartMedia gives artists an opportunity to let their activism stand side by side with their music, reaching audiences far beyond their own social media. It is a win-win for the Global Goals and the artists."
