Work in the Public Service of the Future

Working Paper

This is the first in our series of Working Papers, in which the Centre invites development experts and practitioners to put forward ideas and approaches that should inform the debate on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Understanding what work will be like in the public service of the future is an imperative for long-term public service effectiveness. Facilitating and maintaining this effectiveness, will be a key element in the achievement of SDGs.
This has prompted an urgent rethink of assumptions underlying policy formulation and public service motivation. This paper, co-authored with colleagues at Collaborate CIC UK, examines some of the approaches and their implications for developing countries.
