Promoting effective and inclusive governance
UNDP supports governments to protect, respect and fulfil human rights, to increase access to justice and strengthen the capacities of countries to promote inclusive and effective multisectoral governance for HIV and health. For instance, laws and policies that eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV and groups that are at risk of HIV infection are imperative for better health outcomes.
Our efforts are geared towards supporting countries to improve legal and policy environments to protect the vulnerable and leave no one behind. We also provide technical assistance to ensure the sustainability of national HIV and health responses by supporting innovative approaches to financing that can contribute to universal health coverage and reduce health inequities and financial hardship on the poor. UNDP works in close partnership with WHO to strengthen national responses to non-communicable diseases and tobacco control.
UNDP’s work on effective and inclusive governance for health contributes to achieving SDG 3 (health and well-being) and health-related targets in SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 10 (reducing inequalities) and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions).
