UNDP Thailand Accelerator Lab

Working towards a green, resilient and inclusive recovery by unleashing the power of collective intelligence, innovations and testing to accelerate Thailand’s progress towards the SDGs.

The UNDP Accelerator Lab in Thailand is bringing together grassroots innovations with new sources of real-time data and experimentation to tackle priority issues such as air pollution, waste management and the digital divide. The team is applying gamification, behavioral insights and citizen sciences to understand individuals’ attitudes and behaviors towards waste management. On air pollution, we are applying ethnographic research, sensemaking and systems thinking approaches to develop a ‘System Map’ of the key dynamics of air pollution and an integrated simulation tool that can be used to guide policy analysis to address challenges. On the digital divide, we are supporting the Thai Government in applying digital transformation to enhance the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of their work with a view to improve accessibility and quality of public services delivery. We are working closely with the Thailand Policy Lab, a collaboration between UNDP and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, to help bring experimentation and evidence to support policy making and to prototype scalable solutions by applying data science and other innovative approaches.

Given Thailand’s robust innovation ecosystem, the Accelerator Lab can also act as a platform that brings together prominent actors from the government, private sector, civil society and academia, while also facilitating the communication and collaboration between them to promote, unify and coordinate social innovation related activities across the country.
