Yaounde, May 4, 2020 – A shipment of medical equipment worth 3.9 million USD from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Bank, and the Global Fund was on May 4, 2020 in Yaounde,  handed over   to the minister of Health to support the government’s COVID19 Response Plan.  

The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, lauded UNDP, the World Bank and Global Fund for making this possible.

“UNDP used all its available contacts to have this delivered within the shortest possible time. I also thank the World Bank and Global Fund for their financial contributions”, Minister Manaouda said.

The first set of medical equipment included: 20 Ventilators, 100 Infusion Pumps, 2400 Infrared Thermometers and 1 million Surgical Mask. The second set of the deliveries included 20 Defibrillators, 100 Pulse Oxymeters, 2 million Surgical Mask, 1,1 million of Gloves, 25 000 Gowns, 24 000 Shoe covers, 50 000 suits and 25 000 Test kits for COVID-19

“Strengthening the health system is a top priority to fight COVID19. UNDP Cameroon, in partnership with the World Bank and the Global Fund were able to quickly mobilize resources be fast mover in purchasing urgent medical equipment. UNDP is also working closely with the government to enhance the socio-economic response, particularly in addressing the needs of most vulnerable communities said the Resident Representative of UNDP Cameroon, Jean Luc Stalon.

“The World Bank Group is taking broad, fast action to help developing countries strengthen their pandemic response, increase disease surveillance, improve public health interventions, and help the private sector continue to operate and sustain jobs.” said Abdoulaye Seck, World Bank Country Director for Cameroon.
