GED Project: Thanks to energy retrofit indoor comfort has been improved for 280 pupils and teachers in "Dositej Obradović" school in Blatnica

By installing new joinery and thermal façade on the primary school "Dositej Obradović" in Blatnica near Teslic, more comfortable indoor conditions for 280 students and teachers are provided. In addition to comfort, significant financial and energy savings will be achieved.

Energy efficiency measures worth BAM 190,000 were realized within the Green Economic Development (GED) Project, thanks to funds provided by the Government of Sweden, Municipality of Teslić and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska. The GED project is implemented by United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The plaque was revealed by Anders Hagelberg ambassador of Embassy of Sweden in BiH, Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Srebrenka Golić minister for spatial planning, civil engineering and ecology of Republika Srpska, Srđan Todorović director of Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska, Milan Miličević Mayor of Teslic and Miladin Gotovac director of “Dositej Obradović” school.

"The main reason we support the project is to combat climate change and to protect the environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, because BiH has the most polluted air in Europe” stated Anders Hagelberg, ambassador of Embassy of Sweden in BiH.

Miladin Gotovac, director of “Dositej Obradović” primary school underlined that energy efficiency has great importance for pupils and employees. He expressed hope that this project will contribute to even better performance of students. The energy efficiency measures were executed over the two months and energy savings of 30 percent are expected.

The energy retrofit has significant importance in environmental and economic aspects stated Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative. He also added that over 1000 green jobs were created in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the Green Economic Development project.

Energy Efficient School "Dositej Obradović" in Blatnice

Milan Miličević, Mayor of Teslic has underlined the constructive cooperation with UNDP that exists for several years. Within the scope of GED project already three public buildings were energy retrofitted and the contract has been signed for one more school in Teslic. 

“Through energy efficiency project we already retrofitted 31 public buildings, and our goals are much higher. In addition, through the Project it is envisioned modernization of street lighting with LED system.” said Srebrenka Golić, minister for spatial planning, civil engineering and ecology of Republika Srpska. Golić also thanked the Ambassador of Sweden for support.

"In energy retrofitted public buildings indoor comfort has increased, and financial saving are achieved and are being achieved in the budgets. Annually just through this project with the funds provided by the Government of Sweden and  Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska around 2 million KM is invested in energy efficiency” stated Srđan Todorović, director of  Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska.

Partners in the implementation of GED Project activities in Republika Srpska are the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska, Ministry of Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology of RS, Ministry of Education and Culture RS and Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of RS.

The Green Economic Development Project aims to create favorable conditions for investments in energy efficiency projects, increase the number of green jobs, and contribute to environmental protection and economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Green Economic Development Project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the financial support of the Government of Sweden, the Environmental Fund of  Federation of BiH and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, entity ministries of spatial planning, cantonal ministries, and other partners.
