“Data is the present and the future”

The Monitoring Centre on Social Cohesion and Resilience has been officially launched to collect and analyse data on organised violence in Thailand. The centre is a collaborative effort between UNDP in Thailand and the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University with support from the European Union. The opening event, “The Methodology Workshop – Coding Organised Violence Data”, was virtually held on 28 June 2021.

The EU ambassador H.E. Pirkka Tapiola joined the opening session along with the UNDP Resident Representative of Thailand and the Director of IAS. The research team from Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), Sweden shared their valuable experiences in data collection, and the session was attended by participants from country-wide academic institutions and CSOs. The work of the Centre will continue throughout the year and its data is expected to inform policies to prevent social tensions in Thailand.
