Regional Consultation on the National Baseline Assessment and the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, Mongolia | 11 October

Mongolia’s National Baseline Assessment to inform the National Action Plan on BHR is underway. To verify findings and get feedback from a wide range of stakeholders UNDP is supporting the organization of a regional consultation in Orkhon province with representatives of government agencies, local business and members of civil society joining from seven neighboring provinces.

Reference Group Meeting – Studies on Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP) and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), Thailand | 15 October

In 2020, Reference Groups on SLAPP and HRDs were established to provide overall guidance and technical assistance through the development of two key research products and to ensure that relevant stakeholders are substantially engaged at all stages of the studies. The second meeting of the Reference Group is convened to collect feedback on the studies and finalize their content.

Seminar on Business and Human Rights in the Thai Capital Market to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Thailand | 28 October

The online seminar organized by UNDP, SEC, NHRCT and GNCT will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the UNGPs with a series of special lectures on the progress made in the last decade, policy measures and good practices applied, and discussions on why Business and Human Rights is important to every sector. The event will be closed with a CEO panel discussion.

Malaysia’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights is planned to focus on three thematic areas: governance, environment, and labour. The Technical Committee Meeting on governance, chaired by the Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC), is aiming to map out the process for NAP development of this specific thematic area.

Raising awareness on Human Rights with Women Workers in the Free Trade Zones (FTZs) in Sri Lanka | mid-November (date to be confirmed)

Together with civil society partners B+HR Asia will organize awareness raising events for women workers in the Katunayake FTZ, Koggala FTZ, and Vavuniya and Kilinochchi Garment Factory Areas in mid-November. On the events women workers can learn more about their rights under international human rights law, the UNGPs, and national business and human rights frameworks, including how to collaborate with civil society organizations to address any legal protection gaps and access remedy.

Indonesia Regional Conference on Business and Human Rights (RCBHR), Indonesia | 18-19 November 2021 (TBC)

The Government of Indonesia, with the leadership of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, is organizing a regional conference to advance international cooperation on Business and Human Rights and discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing the UNGPs in Asia. The theme of the conference is “Implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) as a Pathway to Rebuild Sustainable and Resilient Business During and Beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic”. Invitees to the event include relevant ministries/agencies, business actors, National Human Rights Institutions, members of civil society, and other participants from Southeast Asia region.

National Consultation on Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP) and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), Thailand | 25 November

The protection of Human Rights Defenders has been identified as one of the four key priority areas in Thailand’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP). To support the implementation of the NAP, UNDP is conducting two studies dedicated to 1) SLAPP, examining past and current cases in all regions of Thailand, while identifying key trends, challenges, and common issues and 2) the protection of HRDs to provide an overview of the challenges they face, existing mechanisms in place and where they fall short to sufficiently protect HRDs and provide access to remedy, with special attention to Women Human Rights Defenders. The national consultation is organized online to present the findings of the studies and to seek feedback and inputs on the recommendations included.

Roundtable discussion on Infrastructure and Women, Indonesia | 30 November

The roundtable discussion, organized in collaboration with Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, will provide an opportunity to share the findings of UNDP Indonesia’s research on the impact of Infrastructure Developments on Women, and seek validation from roundtable participants.

B+HR Asia is offering Indonesian business coaching and human rights due diligence self-assessment support based on the Human Rights Due Diligence and COVID-19: Rapid Self-Assessment for Business tool between October and December 2021. On the event UNDP will present learnings and from the activity and invite participants to share their feedback.
