European Union for Climate in Eastern Partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine (EU4Climate)

What we do

The EU4Climate action will contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation and to the development towards a low-emissions and climate-resilient economy in line with the Paris Agreement in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. It will assist the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries to integrate the low-emissions and climate resilience objectives into development policies and plans, to improve and consolidate climate policies and legislative alignment.

Climate change has emerged as one of the most important issues facing the humanity in the 21st century. Countries’ climate pledges towards the Paris Agreement or Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) provide a framework for guiding national action on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Accelerating climate action requires system-level transformations supported by leadership at the highest levels and by diverse coalitions across all sectors of society.

EU4Climate helps governments in the six EU Eastern Partner countries to take action against climate change. It supports countries in implementing the Paris Climate Agreement and improving climate policies and legislation. Its ambition is to limit climate change impact on citizens lives and make them more resilient to it.

The scope of the Action was defined in cooperation with all partner countries, eeas.europa.eu

The Action builds on important achievements of past cooperation programmes, such as EU ClimaEast Programme, which supported Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Neighbourhood East and was completed in 2017.

EU4Climate takes into account the enhanced cooperation endorsed as part of "20 Deliverables for 2020" at the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in November 2017.

The Action is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, reflected also in the Projects section here: nature-ic.am
