Climate change is considered a “risk multiplier.” The complex and interrelated causes and consequences of increasing climate variability, uncertainty and extreme weather events require comprehensive, integrated strategies. Collaborative action is needed to reduce its impacts on people, communities, natural ecosystems as well as protect development gains, peace and stability. In the West Sahel region, the capacity of institutions and governmental organizations on climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and natural resource management is limited and often not connected to governance on conflict prevention and sustaining peace.
