Nikola Swann is Global Head of Governments & Multilaterals at SwissThink SAS, an independent global advisory firm specialized in credit rating and credit risk consulting and training, covering all asset classes and geographies. He advises sovereign governments, multilateral entities, and banks, particularly regarding credit ratings, credit risk, debt management, and financial risk management.
Previously, during 19 years at S&P Global Ratings (S&P), Mr. Swann led a team of FI Rating analysts; served as Director, Sovereign Ratings; and contributed to the Banking Industry Country Risk Assessment (BICRA) Global Industry Focus Team (GIFT), the Government-Related Entities GIFT, and the North America Credit Conditions Committee. He had primary responsibility for ratings on, among others: The World Bank Group; Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac; Citigroup, TD & the Bank of Nova Scotia; and for sovereign ratings on Bermuda, Canada & the US (including unprecedented 2011 rating actions, for which he received S&P’s coveted Gold Ace Award).
He was a frequent voting member of many global rating committees for sovereigns and other governments, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), multilaterals, and private-sector banks during his time at S&P. In his latter years at S&P he was often appointed to chair rating committees and formal BICRA reviews. He has extensive experience with the comparative analysis and credit ratings of sovereigns, sovereign guarantees, SOEs, multilateral entities, and banking sectors across all regions, particularly in the Americas, EMEA, and Australasia
